Trail Rides

Trail Rides

There is probably no better introduction to the remarkable Icelandic Horse than our daily trail rides. We’ll match a horse to your level of experience, and we’ll travel at a pace that suits you so that you can experience the horse’s gentle temperament and smooth gaits. You won’t believe how much action is possible underneath you while you feel the sensation, as Icelanders describe it, of “riding in an easy chair.”
Our seasoned guide will lead you out along the quaint back roads of the Mad River Valley and, in season, across meadows and into the woods on the slopes of the Green Mountains. Along the way, we love to talk about the unique characteristics and history of Icelandic Horses and point out the natural features, wildlife, and spectacular scenery of the countryside. By the end of the ride, you’re likely to have made a fast friend of the horse that has just taken you on a most memorable journey.

You can savor our trail rides in any season, from the fresh greenery of springtime through the lazy country days of summer and the breathtaking foliage and crisp air of autumn. In the winter stop by for a visit or conditions dependent, schedule a lesson or a short trail ride. The Icelandic Horse is at its best in the winter, growing a long coat and reveling in the snow that makes the Mad River a hub of all sorts of outdoor activities.
We accommodate all levels of riding skill, including novices, on Day Rides. Children over 10 years old with riding experience are welcome. Groups usually number from four to eight.
